The process of manufacturing paper of fabric based wall coverings entails coating, printing and pre-pasting. In many cases the backing material is coated with a ground color using colored vinyl (PVC) or another substance. Then, pattern printing techniques may be applied using surface, gravure, silk screen or rotary printing. The concluding step generally entails a wet coating procedure. After drying, the basis-weight of finished wall coverings can be verified using a Hammer-IMS basis-weight quality control system which scans the material in transversal direction for maximum material coverage. The system can be equipped with one or more sensors. In addition to basis-weight inspection, wall coverings are subject to visual quality control.
