About Hammer-IMS

Hammer-IMS develops and commercializes measurement systems to improve product quality and production efficiency.

In-line thickness measurements for manufacturing

Hammer-IMS nv is a high-tech machine builder providing solutions and sensors in the field of industrial quality and process control. Based in Herk-de-Stad, Belgium, Hammer-IMS supplies contactless measurement systems for measuring thickness, basis-weight and anomalies of flat structures in production lines, based on the disruptive technologies of Hammer-IMS:

  • M-Rays
  • M2-Rays
  • C-Rays
  • L-Rays
  • U-Rays
  • Edge-Vision-4.0

Our technologies

M-Ray technology combines millimeter waves (high-frequency electromagnetic waves) with innovative algorithms to a powerful alternative for today’s nuclear and radioactive measuring equipment. Thus, Hammer-IMS' solutions are sustainable, operator-safe and environmentally friendly.

C-Ray technology combines robust capacitive thickness measurement technology with integrated variable-standoff compensation such that it can be applied as a moving head solution for industrial thickness measurement.

U-Ray technology make use of ultrasound waves that are able to penetrate metals or materials with high electrical conductivity for thickness measurements.

L-Ray technology makes use of laser or confocal sensors for true thickness measurements of both opaque and translucent materials; confocal-based L-Rays are perfect for shiny or glossy materials. Apart from applications of thickness measurement, L-Ray technology is suitable for accurate material width detection.

M2-Ray technology is comparable with the M-Ray technology, yet with M2-Rays it is possible to to measure multilayers and extruded pipes and profiles.

Edge-Vision-4.0 consists of machine-vision technology to perform detection, classification, and continuous monitoring applications efficiently and reliably, making use of ultra-high definition camera sensors.

Serving across markets

Hammer-IMS has an international customer base in the fields of textile coating (calendering and knife), non-woven production, wall coverings, plastics sheet production, and many more. Hammer-IMS technologies are favorable in situations where conventional technologies such as optical technologies, nuclear or radioactive radiation, ultrasound waves, inductive or capacitive measurement systems fail, are undesirable or provide an unreliable output.

The modular and robust Hammer-IMS systems offer up to micrometer/gram level precisions on industrial in-line production machines. Obtaining a high stand-off distance and the ability to integrate more than one measurement head in a single installation are a few of the many advantages of the technology. The technology of the company is the result of many years of industrial-focused research at the ESAT - MICAS laboratories of KU Leuven University in Belgium.

Hammer-IMS has become a supplier of contactless measurement systems used in production lines across international borders. As of Q3 2023, Hammer-IMS has made a strategic move to establish operations in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, in the United States. This enables our customers and partners to have a supplier that is always within reach.
