Our non-nuclear M-Ray based solutions for thickness and grammage measurement has proven to be successful in textiles, nonwovens, plastics and other industries. In addition, Hammer-IMS is extending its Marveloc sensor family wity U-Ray (ultrasound technology) sensors, in order to penetrate metal materials or materials with carbon layers or fibers. The U-Ray head is shown in the figure aside.
Our U-Ray technology is all about ultrasonics. Electromagnetic fields (C-Rays) or electromagnetic waves (M-Rays) are unable to penetrate metallic or metallized objects. Ultrasonic thickness measurement (UTM) or basis-weight measurement is a non-destructive testing method used to inspect the thickness of metal. The digital ultrasound U-Ray sensor is developed by upgrading analogue ultrasound sensing with digital signal processing techniques (DSP) to enable ultrasound wave phase detection. The concept is shown in the figure aside.
As it is able to measure through metallic materials, the U-Ray sensor excellently fits solutions for battery film applications, in which coated layer thicknesses should be measured on a metal substrate. The U-Rays are compatible with machines of the type Marveloc-CURTAIN.
