AI Project engineer

Job description

As project engineer within Hammer-IMS you are responsible for customer projects from A to Z. You will not only be in charge of project management, but will also have the opportunity to develop new types of measuring systems or AI-enabled camera-based inspection systems.

Project management:

  • You are the main point of communication for the customer at all stages of a project.
  • In the beginning of a project, you interact with the customer to interpret their needs and requirements. You translate this set of requirements to project objectives and technical tasks for the electrical, mechanical, software and AI, signal processing and test departments within Hammer-IMS. You collaborate with these departments and communicate effectively with other project participants.
  • You formulate a realistic timeline for the project. You set up a project planning which you monitor throughout the project’s lifecycle, which covers design, assembly, test, shipment, installation, commissioning and technical support.
  • You create and manage the budget and the bill of materials of the project. You are responsible for placing and following up all orders within the project.
  • You compile the internal and customer documentation for the project (including manuals, risk analyses, product acceptance tests, …).
  • You ensure that a project runs efficiently and you assure quality from start to finish.
  • You work closely together with the other project engineers. You report on the project status on regular basis.

Development:

  • You will be involved in the software and AI design of new types of measuring and inspection systems. Furthermore, you will boost-up the performance of our existing solutions.
  • You devise creative concepts and develop them into software features and create value by shaping the way we adopt and retrain neural networks.
  • You will be involved in the programming of the measuring and inspection systems.
  • You deploy software on our pc systems, test their performance and will be doing on-site (at customer premises) test runs. You will be able to set-up a test campaign during which industrial production data is gathered acting as training data, which can then be used to (re)-train neural networks.
  • You provide technical support to customers, both on- and off-site.
  • You work closely together with the other members of the software department.

Profile

  • You have a master in engineering, with a strong focus on software.
  • You have good organizational skills and work in a structured manner.
  • You are hands-on and flexible.
  • You have good communication skills.
  • You like a varied job content, as well as problem solving.
  • Neural networks (ONNX framework, TensorFlow framework, or similar) and C++ and Python do not have any secrets for you.
  • Knowledge and experience in Linux operating systems is an advantage.
  • Insights in camera optics is an advantage.
  • Experience in the markets of production quality control is an advantage.
  • You will be based in Hammer-IMS’s headquarters in Herk-de-Stad, Belgium but are willing to occasionally travel abroad to customers.
  • You are prepared to work in a young and passionate team. You like to work closely together with your colleagues.
  • You are fluent in English. Knowledge of additional languages is an advantage.
  • You are in possession of a driver’s license.
